BambooHR and HiBob are both HR information systems (HRIS): the system of record for employee data, time off, onboarding and, increasingly, payroll and talent management. The real differences are in how they price, where they run payroll, how deep their talent and planning tools go, and the size of company each is built for.
Short answer:
- BambooHR suits US small and mid-sized businesses that want a simple, easy-to-adopt HRIS with a published starting price ($10 per employee per month) and US payroll as an add-on.
- HiBob suits mid-sized and global companies that need US and UK payroll, a payroll hub for other countries, and deeper talent, compensation and workforce-planning modules, and that are comfortable with quote-only pricing.
BambooHR vs HiBob at a Glance
What Changed in 2026
HiBob raised $166 million in a Salesforce-led round on September 1, 2026, at a valuation of about $3.2 billion, and BambooHR launched Bamboo AI, a set of AI agents, on July 21, 2026. Both moves point the same way: HR data feeding AI tools.
- HiBob and Salesforce: the round followed the June 2026 launch of Slackbot HCM, which lets Slack users ask people questions answered from HiBob data, within their permissions (Reworked).
- Bamboo AI: agents that generate reports, build shift schedules and check payroll for errors, and connect to tools such as ChatGPT and Claude through MCP. It is in private beta with select customers (BambooHR).
- BambooHR Recognition & Rewards: launched in June 2026 for the Pro and Elite plans.
- BambooHR On-Demand Pay: launched in May 2026 with Clair, free for employers on all BambooHR plans.
How Much Do BambooHR and HiBob Cost?
BambooHR publishes a starting price of $10 per employee per month and a flat rate from $250 a month for 25 or fewer employees; HiBob publishes no prices and quotes every deal per employee. That makes BambooHR easier to budget for before a sales call, but neither vendor lists a full rate card.
BambooHR Pricing
BambooHR's pricing page lists three plans:
- Core (from $10 per employee per month): employee records, custom reports, workflows and approvals, hiring and onboarding, time off, benefits tracking, eNPS and wellbeing surveys with AI themes, compliance support and an AI assistant for HR data questions.
- Pro (quoted): everything in Core plus 360° review cycles, 1:1s, an employee community, 15 compliance training courses and an assistant that also answers policy questions.
- Elite (quoted): everything in Pro plus compensation planning with Mercer salary benchmarks, levels and bands, custom dashboards, HR benchmarks, premium services and 300+ training courses.
Third-party pricing trackers report Pro at about $17 and Elite at about $25 per employee per month; BambooHR itself shows "Get Quote" for both. Companies with 25 or fewer employees pay a flat rate from $250 a month instead, so a 10-person team pays about $25 per person. Volume discounts apply automatically, nonprofits get 15% off, and bundling Payroll and Benefits Administration with any plan saves 15% (US employees only). BambooHR says it never requires an annual contract.
HiBob Pricing
HiBob's pricing page asks for your headcount band (1–49, 50–199, 200–999 or 1,000+) and the modules you want, then returns a quote. Its FAQ says pricing is generally per employee and that every plan includes Core HR: the Bob AI Companion, employee database, document management, time off, lifecycle workflows, integrations, analytics and a mobile app. Modules such as Performance, Engagement, Learning, Hiring, Payroll, Compensation and Planning are added on top.
Buyer-reported HiBob prices vary too widely to quote as fact, and several third-party sources report a separate implementation fee. Ask for the per-employee price of Core and each module, plus any one-time fees, in writing.
How Do BambooHR and HiBob Compare Feature by Feature?
Both cover core HR well; the differences sit in payroll geography, talent depth and planning. "Yes" means the feature appears on the vendor's own website; "Not listed" means we could not find it there, not that it is confirmed missing. Checked October 27, 2026.

Where ThriveSparrow Fits
BambooHR and HiBob are systems of record. Many teams keep one of them for employee data and payroll, then add a dedicated tool for engagement, performance and recognition. That is the gap we built ThriveSparrow to close.
ThriveSparrow is an AI-native, all-in-one employee success platform that works on top of your HRIS: it syncs employees from BambooHR or HiBob and keeps them updated automatically. The Full Platform is $9 per employee per month, billed annually (see pricing), and covers:
Connecting takes a few steps from ThriveSparrow's Integrations page. See all integrations or the HiBob setup guide.
- Engagement: pulse, eNPS and lifecycle surveys in 100+ languages, with QR-code and text-message access for frontline staff, plus Infer AI to flag burnout and disengagement signals.
- Performance: 360-degree reviews with calibration and the 9-box grid, and AI-powered development plans.
- Recognition: Kudos with nominations, awards and a rewards marketplace of 800+ global gift cards.
- Manager tools: 1:1s and continuous feedback, free on every plan.
To be clear about the trade-offs: we are not an HRIS, so you still need BambooHR, HiBob or another system for employee records, payroll and benefits. If BambooHR Pro's reviews and recognition, or HiBob's Talent and Engagement modules, already cover what you need, you may not need a separate tool.

What to Ask in the Demo
- What is our all-in annual price, including payroll, benefits, time tracking and any implementation fee?
- Which features shown are in the plan or modules we are buying?
- Where can you run payroll natively, and how do you handle employees in other countries?
- Is there a minimum contract term, and what happens at renewal?
- Which AI features are generally available today, and which are in beta?
- How do you sync with the tools we already use for engagement, performance and payroll?

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is BambooHR or HiBob cheaper?
BambooHR is the only one of the two with a published starting price: $10 per employee per month for Core, or a flat rate from $250 a month for 25 or fewer employees. HiBob quotes every deal, so the only way to compare is to get both quotes for the same modules.
2. Does BambooHR run payroll outside the US?
No. BambooHR Payroll and Benefits Administration are for US employees only. For other countries, BambooHR offers local payroll and Employer of Record through its partnership with Remote.
3. Is HiBob a legit company?
Yes. HiBob was founded in 2015, says more than 5,500 companies use its platform, and raised $166 million in a Salesforce-led round in September 2026 at a valuation of about $3.2 billion. Its customers include Fiverr, Fred Perry, ElevenLabs and Five Guys, according to HiBob's website.
4. Is BambooHR reputable?
Yes. BambooHR was founded in 2008 and focuses on small and mid-sized businesses. Nucleus Research named it a Leader in its SMB HCM Technology Value Matrix 2026.
5. Who are BambooHR's main competitors?
Common alternatives include HiBob, Rippling, Gusto, Paylocity and Personio, depending on whether you need payroll, global coverage or deeper talent tools. See our guides to HiBob alternatives and Workday vs HiBob.
6. Which is better for frontline or blue-collar teams?
Both have mobile apps. BambooHR adds time tracking with iPad apps and time clocks; HiBob offers a Time module. For surveys and recognition that reach staff without company email, a tool such as ThriveSparrow adds QR-code and text-message delivery on top of either HRIS.
